Leapfish Review - Continued

I sensed that the salesman would persist and call back or try to bypass me so I looked into the company a bit more and found some shaky things with the founder and his previous companies. But I wanted to evaluate LeapFish on its merit as a site and potential traffic source. I looked at some external traffic data from Google, Alexa, Compete and whatever else I could find. The traffic wasn't impressive and may have been supplemented with paid traffic from Adwords and others but it wasn't bad enough to eliminate LeapFish as a posssible channel.

While I was researching for a day or two, they did bypass me and made their pitch to the CEO. I reminded him that I had sent him a cautionary email entitled LeapFish Warning and luckily he hadn't signed up with them. After that a light bulb came on. I remembered seeing our site listed in the organic results from Google that were at the top of the LeapFish result page. We were listed for free right where we would be listed if we paid LeapFish for that top spot. I knew we had been number one in Google for more than a year on that term so we would have been number one on the LeapFish page as well. So I looked into how much traffic that spot was giving us from LeapFish from that top spot for our keyword. I found that we received two visits and one came from the Bay Area on the day that I was talking to the sales rep. So one of my two visitors was LeapFish. So for $1400 I could get a spot that provided one valid visitor in 6 months, that's only $700 per visitor. Since I am pay per action guy, this translates into my language as $35,000 per conversion. I think I will pass on LeapFish.
